Even more craziness! Bathroom remodels

Greetings!

The season has come and gone. We have had 4 holiday parties (including 3 that I was directly involved with serious dining considerations). We have also started the major remodel of the year, that being the master bathroom.

We are not trying to be superfluous with our work here, but given that it has been almost 2 years since I have been able to use the shower due to inept construction of our bath, we finally bit the bullet and started the retiling process for both the floor (carpet was moldy and water damaged), rebuild the walls (who ever built our house didn't use any waterproofed materials for the tiling. Once the grout failed, it destroyed not only the floor below, but the exterior wall joices and what was once drywall on at least 3 surfaces...) and started to lay tiles.

We had several marathon sessions of work in demo, cutting tile, putting up concrete and hardieback, placing mud, and finally setting the tavertine and slate. Peacock Slate on the floor, with tumbled Travertine for the bath and shower surfaces.

Check out the pictures above to see what it looks like before we have sealed or grouted the surfaces in the kitchen. It is still a mess, but you can see how beautiful the stone and pattern that Shell chose happens to be.

We still have to clean the tiles in a serious manner, than seal the stone, then grout the tiles and then apply sealant again. We need to double seal because natural stone is rather pourous (unlike fire kilned ceramic tiles) and will soak up the moisture out of the grout....

We haven't even begun to consider what color to repaint the bathroom. Have a hard time thinking that far ahead! :)

Lots of work to remodel...should be well worth it once you get it done.
